Zelengora is known as the queen of mountains, a natural jewel of the Balkans. Part of its massif forms the left part of National Park Sutjeska. It is known for its large number of glacial lakes. The most well-known ones are: Kotlaničko Lake, Orlovačko Lake, Štirinsko Lake, Borilovačko Lake, Lake Donje Bare, Lake Gornje Bare, Crno jezero (Black Lake), and Bijelo jezero (White Lake). Zelengora is famous for hiking, photography, canyoning on the river Hrčavka or even for camping near one of its lakes. Each of the lakes is unique and special in its own way. Some of them are ideal for swimming, and others are perfect for watching. The largest populations of big game animals that we often meet on our trips are found in this part of NP Sutjeska. We can see diverse flora, as well. The river Neretva originates from the massif of Zelengora. Numerous mountain peaks are located at an elevation over 2000 mamsl.

TOUR DESCRIPTION:
The trip usually starts in the morning by gathering in front of the hotel Mladost or the restaurant Komlen from where we go to the starting point Sremušna Luka (1310 mamsl) by an off-road vehicle, which is an hour and a half drive. Upon arrival at the starting point, after a short preparation and after we take a look around, we head toward Crno jezero (Black Lake – 1430 mamsl), which we reach after one hour of hiking, walking along a forest road and a path, following a nearby stream. We take the first break by the lake, where we refresh ourselves in the coldest spring of drinking water on Zelengora. We continue to the forest (30 min) towards Bijelo jezero (White Lake – 1450 mamsl). We take a break here to take photos on a high cliff leaned over the lake like a natural diving board. After the break, we carry on towards the mountain pass Ljubin Grob, where you can see the monument dedicated to the Partisan fighters of the battle of Sutjeska from 1493. Brutal battles against German conquerors and their allies took place here. We go back to the starting/final point where the vehicle takes us back to Tjentište.
What to bring:
Hiking clothes and shoes, warm clothes in case the weather is cold, a water bottle, and snacks to eat on a break by the lake. You can bring hiking poles (optional). From May to June it is recommended that you bring a mosquito repellent and a sunscreen.
